About JAPAO Sanctuary on the Green Coast
A World of Its Own
In an archipelago of 365 islands, we’ve mastered the art of standing out while blending in. A dramatic xxx-square foot modern villa with two master suites melds seamlessly into a 6-acre tropical private island playground with its own beach. A spacious terrace opens to a swimming pool, sun deck and Jacuzzi, all overlooking the iridescent blue-green sea that characterizes Angra Dos Reis. The villa offers an intimate hideaway for 2-4, but with three additional sea-view bungalows tucked into the island’s grounds, you could expand the guest list.
Location A Complete Change of Scenery is Closer Than You'd Imagine
Beaches and Biodiversity
Japao lies 105 miles west of Rio de Janeiro, just over four miles off the verdant shores of Angra dos Reis, Brazil’s “Green Coast, ” but as exotic as it sounds, the travel time parallels Caribbean or Central American getaways. While most private island retreats involve lengthy boat trips or connections, a flight paired with VIP helicopter transfer delivers you directly to the heart of this municipality of 365 islands. With more than 2,000 beaches and a mountainous coastline covered in dense forests, it's a vast natural wonderland for exploration.
Getting to Japao From Rio to Relaxation in under an Hour
VIP Transfer Included For Seamless Arrival
Take one of the many non-stop flights from the U.S. or Europe into Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport, where you’ll be greeted with a VIP customs experience that whisks you through immigration without standing in line, escorts you to baggage collection, and then leads you about 20 minutes later to the tarmac for the 35-40 minute helicopter ride south to Japao. The enhanced arrival treatment shaves hours from typical private island transfers, so your holiday can start in record time.

A trip of a lifetime
Our vacation to Ilha do Japao was truly a trip of a lifetime which renewed and inspired both mind and body!
We landed on the island by helicopter from Rio and we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. The natural beauty of the island is immediately evident. The architecture of the main house and cabins have been meticulously designed to bring the outdoors in. The koi fish pond and large natural rock are the center of the main house and next to that, a lounge area in which we would sit and enjoy late night conversations while gazing up at the stars. We practiced yoga, hiked on Ilha Grande Island, paddle boarded, enjoyed daily massages and lounging by the pool and dock. Our meals were beautifully prepared and served to us in the open- air dining room. Every day I meandered on the stone walking paths and would discover little coves, rocks, and beautiful vegetation unique to the area. The sweeping views of the ocean and the mystical landscape of the island make this an incredibly special place to find some solitude but also a wonderful respite to enjoy with family and friends.

The house is absolutely spectacular, the amenities are world class and its architecture is stunning
We had the privilege of staying at Ilha Do Japoa over the recent March Break. It was our family of four, along with friends who also have two teenagers. The house is absolutely spectacular, the amenities are world class and its architecture is stunning. The island and whole the area is also unbelievably beautiful. There are so many fun things to do in the area from water falling, zip lining, hiking and other fun day trips. We also spent several days just relaxing and enjoying the pool and the little beach on the island. The staff were super accommodating and friendly, specifically Leandro and Cleidje who run the house day to day. The food was tremendous and Leandro taught us how to make proper Capirinhias too! We would also recommend using Voytek and Leticia who organized some great day trip adventures and cooked vegan meals for us. Letcia ran us through daily yoga and does massages too.
